At New Again Detailing, our goal is simple: to restore your vehicle’s appearance and help it look its absolute best—without overpromising or cutting corners. Recently, we worked on a vehicle with yellow paint transfer and light-to-moderate scratching on the front driver-side bumper. It’s the kind of everyday damage that can make your vehicle look older and neglected, even when it’s mechanically sound.
The Problem: Yellow Paint Transfer + Surface Scratches

The customer had brushed against a yellow-painted surface, leaving behind a bold paint transfer and a cluster of visible scratches. This type of damage is common, especially around tight parking spots or curbs.
While the yellow paint transfer was unsightly, we could tell right away that most of it was sitting on top of the clear coat. There were also several surface-level scratches—and a few deeper ones that had etched into the paint.
The Process: Precision Polishing and Honest Expectations
We started by thoroughly washing and decontaminating the area. Once prepped, we used a dual-action polisher with a targeted cutting compound to safely remove the paint transfer and reduce the appearance of the lighter scratches.
The polishing process did an amazing job bringing back the shine and clarity to the bumper, and the difference between the before and after was night and day.
However, it’s important to note that some of the deeper scratches could not be completely removed without repainting the panel. That’s a key difference between detailing and bodywork—paint correction can significantly improve a panel’s appearance, but it has its limits when it comes to damage that has cut past the clear coat.
The Result: Major Improvement Without Repainting

While a few deep marks remained, the overall transformation was dramatic. The yellow paint was completely gone, the finish was smooth and glossy, and the scuffed look was replaced by a much cleaner, newer appearance.
This kind of improvement is perfect for customers looking to refresh their vehicle without the cost or downtime of a body shop.
When to Choose Paint Correction vs. Bodywork
This job is a great example of what paint correction can achieve. It’s not magic—but when done right, it can take years off the look of your vehicle and restore pride of ownership. For deeper scratches or gouges, repainting may be necessary, but in many cases, a professional detail is the perfect first step before considering more expensive options.
